What are the key components of a comprehensive estate plan?
In my experience working with clients across California, a comprehensive estate plan typically includes several key components. These include a will, which directs asset distribution and names guardians for minor children; a trust, which is a legal entity that holds assets for beneficiaries (and I often recommend trusts as part of a comprehensive plan); powers of attorney, which authorize someone to manage your financial and healthcare decisions if you become incapacitated; healthcare directives, which outline your wishes regarding medical treatment; and beneficiary designations, which specify who inherits assets in accounts like retirement funds and life insurance policies. I work with clients from my Pasadena office or virtually through the wonders of the internet to tailor these components to their unique needs.
